Going Beyond Words

Appeared in the March 2006
issue of Chatelaine Magazine and the
November 2007 edition of Readers' Digest.

In this piece I tell about the bookclub that we ran for four years on Vancouver’s downtown eastside. The group was called Beyond Words and was for all interested women in that community. The members chose the books, and Mary Trentadue (a friend who is deeply involved in the book world) and I raised the money. Each time we distributed between 50 and 100 books. The article tells about how we got started and how the club was run and includes interviews with several members. Beyond Words was operated through a downtown eastside organization, PACE Society, Prostitution Alternatives Counseling and Education.
